Did you know that there are beetles that eat animal flesh? It is probably not what you think, they just eat the muscle it is left on an animal that has been dissected.

To begin, when animals are being dissected the scientist takes out the eyes and most of the organs. Then, they take the skin and stuff it with cotton to get it ready to go on display for open house. When they are dissecting the animal, they will keep some of the organs like the heart and liver, they also keep the parasites that they find inside of the animal.

Here are some cool facts about animal anatomy.

Fact 1: These scientists have dissected a bird from the 1970’s.

Fact 2: Some of the biggest animals they have dissected are big cats such as pumas and lions.

Fact 3: These scientists do an experiment called isotope analysis which is where they take a part of an animal from years ago and compare it to the same part of the animal form one today to see how they have changed over time.

Question and Answer:

Q: What do they do with the eyes?

A: Most will be tossed but if they are special or rare them, they will keep them and put them into the collection.
