Daily updated list from Wide Open Schools:
- For parents and kids in grades K-5
- For parents and kids in grades 6-12 (check this for some middle school science and math events)
Breakout Live. The people who make the digital Breakout games we play at school have a live game every week day at 11:00 AM. You can win a good prize if you’re either the first one finished, or if you win the drawing from all the finishers. It only takes 10-15 minutes usually, and it’s fun! Just go to breakoutedu.com/live at 11:00 and follow the directions on the screen.
Smithsonian Museum Live. Experts at the Smithsonian Museum have multiple live events every day where they’ll teach about science, history, art, all kinds of things. For some you have to sign up in advance and some you just click a link to join. Check out the daily schedule: Smithsonian Online Events.
Makey Makey Live. Makey Makey does a live Zoom every Tuesday morning where they teach you how to create an invention. You don’t need a Makey Makey of your own to participate. The Zoom is early on Tuesdays (7:00 AM!), but if you’re not up quite that early you can watch the recordings. To join the Zoom live at 7:00 AM on Tuesdays, go here: Makey Makey Zoom To watch the recordings go here: Makey Makey Blog
NASA. NASA has all kinds of live events, STEM challenges, virtual field trips and more! The best place to check is the NASA at Home page. I don’t see any live events for the next few days, but I get an email every time one comes up so I’ll keep updating it on our page. For now you can check out the links and recordings at the website…there is so much science goodness here!
Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Pro Football Hall of Fame has events where you can watch a live presentation from a member of the Hall of Fame and then post questions for them to answer. The next one is Tony Dungy on April 21 at 9:00 AM. It’s on Facebook, so you’ll need to see if you can watch this on a parent’s Facebook account. If you want to check it out, go to this link on April 21 at 9:00: Pro Football Hall of Fame Live. Follow this instructions on the screen to post your questions.
Cooking Demos. For you cooks out there, several places do live cooking demos and classes for kids. Here’s a few to choose from:
Zoo Home Safari. At 12:00 PM each week day, the Cincinnati Zoo has a daily live visit to one of their animals where they teach about the animal and do a short activity. This is a good one for younger siblings, too. It’s another Facebook thing, so check with a parent and then go to this page at 12:00 PM: https://www.facebook.com/cincinnatizoo/ They also post recordings if you miss the live event.
Here is a calendar someone made with virtual field trips for every day through the month of May. NOTE: Most of these are not live events, so you don’t have to go to the one specific to today, and you can still click on past dates: CALENDAR OF VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS
Some more activities you might enjoy:
Rube Goldberg Challenge (May 31 is the deadline if you want to enter the contest)
